A regulated sequence of performing technological tasks (Task) and/or a set of tasks (Solution Item) that implement a typical need.
In QPM, a Pipeline is the automation of creating two levels of standard tasks in a project:
- Solution Item level for Epic - a sequence of work for teams to implement an epic.
- Task level for Solution Item - a sequence of technical tasks for the team's work results.
Setting up technological pipelines is conducted at the company level and is common for all projects.
Each pipeline has several stages:
At the Solution Item level:
- A Pipeline stage is a separate Solution Item with mandatory defined properties and the ability to link to the Solution Item category - automatically creating the second level of the pipeline. The sequence of stages corresponds to the dependencies between team work.
At the Task level:
- A Pipeline stage is a separate task with mandatory defined properties (competence (skill+level) and estimates). The sequence of stages corresponds to the dependencies between tasks.
Customization Option:
For each stage of the Task-level Pipeline for Solution Item, users have the ability to reassign the workflow through which tasks will go in this technological pipeline. Regardless of the previously created or default workflow assigned to the skill defined at this stage, the workflow defined on the Pipelines screen will take precedence for this Pipeline stage.
User Actions:
Creating a Pipeline for Epic:
- Creating Pipeline stages.
- Defining estimates.
- Building the sequence of stages.
- Defining the Solution Item category (for simultaneously building a two-level pipeline)
- Editing the Pipeline - editing the stage.
- Deleting the Pipeline.
- Deleting the Pipeline stage.
